Brevard Old Red Eye Rugby Football ClubThis is a call to any high school aged boys (14-18 years of age) who would be interested in playing rugby in the upcoming Florida Youth Rugby Union (FYRU) Spring season (January-April 2010) for the Brevard Old Red Eye youth program. The prerequisite is that the individual be in good standing with their particular high school and that they maintain satisfactory grades. They must also have some kind of medical health insurance to protect them during the season. If medical insurance is an issue, please see me as there is an effort to get some insurance thru the FYRU.
Our practice schedule will mirror the men's team schedule. Practices right now are slated for 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays for the high school kids at Cocoa West Community Center. Some Saturday morning light contact workout or Fri/Sat scrimmages will also be expected and those will be at Provost Park in Cocoa.
Cost structure to play will be as follows:
$20.00 to USA Rugby for registration (due no later than Dec. 1st)
$75.00 to the team for Spring dues (due no later than Jan 1st)
$10.00 - $12.00 for match day fees to pay for referee and food (due before KO)
$10.00 - $15:00 for gas/water/snacks for away games (due before we travel).
If the cost is an obstacle, then see me. We'll work this out.
Total of 10 games plus scrimmages and post season play.
Team dues pay for some new equipment and as a deposit for any tournaments we want to enter. All will be required to wear the same kit (jerseys provided by the team, black shorts, red socks, boil and bite mouthpiece). Upon payment of spring dues, you will receive the shorts, socks, and mouth pieces. Good cleats are highly recommended. They do not have to be rugby boots.
Season starts about the 2nd week in January. Scrimmages start as early as Nov. 14th depending on numbers and commitment. Practices will start this week.
