Short-Handed Red Eyes Handle Boca With Ease - by Tom Buist

The Red Eyes traveled to Boca Raton for their second match against a Div 1 rugby team in as many weeks. Despite a flat tire, a rainstorm, and only having 15 players they arrived at the pitch ready to play. David Sugimoto, last week's match of the match in a losing effort versus the Miami Tridents, was the captain.

The game started with the Red Eyes drastically outnumbered and many of their players out of position.

Starting lineup was:
1. Fergus
2. Dominick
3. John Porter
4. Tim Madigan
5. Jim Woods
6. Dirck
7. Bob Buchanan
8. Ben Buchanan
9. David Sugimoto
10. Zach Peterson
11. Stuart or Stewart
12. Matt Henderson
13. Matt Regan
14. Tom Buist
15. Chandler Wilson

Subs- Coach Dave
water girls- Rachel and Cyndi

The first half was dominated by forward play and good crashes by the centers. The Red Eyes scored 3 tries and converted one to take a lead of 17-0. One of the tries started as a scrum at the 15 meter mark and was walked in by the forwards. Tackling, passing and all phases were very crisp through the first half.

The second half was much of the same. The Red Eyes managed to score 2 more tries as a result of good kicking from Zach and strong forward play. Matt Regan broke his foot in the first half and was unable to play the second half which allowed for Winger Coach Dave to make an appearance. Coach Dave gave strong minutes including a breakaway down the side before haplessly stepping out of bounds.

The Red Eyes did give up one break away try by the Boca winger in the last few minutes of the contest. The final score was Brevard 27 Boca 7. Ben Buchanan scored 3 tries, Zach Peterson scored one and a conversion, and Dominick scored his first try as a Red Eye.

Boca admitted afterward that they did not expect much of a game, much less a whooping from the Red Eyes. The entire pack was given man of the match honors for manhandling the Boca pack. Dominick was given individual honors for his first try. He does however need to improve his beer chugging ability. It was pathetic.
